Must-Have Mini CAL 2 - Potato

Must-Have Mini CAL 2 - potato

Fried, baked, boiled, mashed, puffed, stuffed… endless variation! This versatile veggie is a work of art in itself. Van Gogh even devoted a painting to it – and who doesn’t know Van Gogh? The potato eaters, of course!

I came up with two sizes for you. The fun thing is that no two potatoes are the same, because of the stitches you’ll add to them later. And did you know you can express your artistic self with the brush by applying some bronzer to your potato? It’ll look like it just came out of the ground!

If you love eating fried potatoes, you can also add some bronzer to the slices. They taste best when they’re golden brown!

Have fun!
Love, Manon

Pattern Potato:
009 Limestone en 010 Vanilla

Small potato:
Make a MR using 009. Sc 6 in MR.
Round 1: *sc 2 in every st* x 6 (12)
Round 2: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Round 3 - 10: sc 18 around
Round 11: *sc 1, sc2tog* x 6 (12)
Round 12: *sc2tog* x 6 (6)
Fasten off and cut the yarn. Leave a tail of approx. 8”.
Baste the yarn through the loops (6) of the last round and pull tight.

You will now add some shaping to the potato with some little stitch. Insert the needle through the middle of the 6 stitches, through the potato, until it comes out in a random spot. Make a little stitch, and gently pull the yarn. This will create a little dent in the potato. Repeat this 5 times or so. Tie a firm knot after the last stitch and weave the ends in.

Do you want to give your potato an even more realistic look? Take a little bronzer and apply it to the potato with your finger. Now it looks like it’s a little ‘dirty’ from the mud!

Large potato:
Make a MR using 009. Sc 6 in MR.
Round 1: *sc 2 in every st* x 6 (12)
Round 2: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Round 3: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (24)
Round 4 - 13: sc 24 around
Round 14: *sc 2, sc2tog* x 6 (18)
Round 15: *sc 1, sc2tog* x 6 (12)
Round 16: *sc2tog* x 6 (6)
Fasten off and cut the yarn. Leave a tail of approx. 12”.

Repeat the steps described for the small potato to add some shaping to your potato and make it look even more realistic.

Potato slice:
Make a MR using 010. Sc 6 in MR
Round 1: *sc 2 in every st* x 6 (12)
Round 2: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Round 3: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (24) and swith to color 009
Round 4: sl st 24 around. Work the stitches loosely so the edge won’t be too tight.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Do you usually eat your au naturel? Then you’re all done. If you prefer fried potatoes, you can throw in a little bronzer.

You can use all of both colors in this pattern. We won’t be using them again in the CAL.
