Must-Have Mini CAL - Orange

A fresh glass of orange juice for breakfast in the sun… who doesn’t love that? The orange definitely had to be included in our Must-Have Mini CAL!

This time I designed full oranges (for the observant viewer: have you seen the little lines on top of the oranges?) but also slices for in the sangria. Cheers! And happy crocheting.

Orange
Colors: 020 Orange, 016 Cantaloupe, 001 White, 078 Bottle and 007 Cigar.

Full orange
Make a mr using 020. Sc 6 in the mr. Leave a 12” cast on tail when making the mr – the tail will be used later to embroider the lines on top of the orange.
Round 1: *sc 2 in every st* x 6 (12)
Round 2: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Bring the cast on tail to the outside through the middle of the mr – to the right side of your work.
Round 3: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (24)
Round 4: *sc 3, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (30)
Round 5: *sc 4, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (36)
Round 6 - 12: sc 36 around
Round 13: *sc 4, sc2tog* x 6 (30)
Round 14: *sc 3, sc2tog* x 6 (24)
Round 15: *sc 2, sc2tog* x 6 (18)
Round 16: *sc 1, sc2tog* x 6 (12)
Round 17: *sc2tog* x 6 (6)
Fasten off with a sl st and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Baste the yarn through the outer loops (6) of the last round and pull tight.
Use the yarn on top of the orange to embroider a few lines. Pull the ends to the inside to hide them.

Leaf
Ch 11 using 078.
Work along the foundation chain in the front loops.
Sl st 1 in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 2 in the same st, tr 1, dc 2 in the same st, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st 1 2x.
Work along the other side of the foundation chain,
Sl st 1 2x, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 2 in the same st, tr 1, dc 2 in the same st, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st 1. Join with a sl st on top of the ch.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to attach the leaf to the orange later.

Stem
Ch 7 using 007.
Sl st 1 in every st, starting in 2nd ch from hook (6)
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to attach the stem to the orange later.

Attach the stem and the leaf to the top of the orange. Fasten them with a tiny stitch and a knot. Pull the ends to the inside to hide them.

Orange slice
Maak a mr using 001. Leave a 16” cast on tail – the tail will be used later to embroider the segments on the orange.
Sc 6 in the mr and switch to color 016.
Round 1: *sc 2 in every st * x 6 using 016 (12)
Round 2: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (18)
Round 3: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* x 6 (24)
Round 4: *sc 3, sc 2 in next st* x 6. Switch to color 001 (30)
Round 5: Using 001 *sc 4, sc 2 in next st* x 6. Switch to color 020 (36)
Round 6: sc 36 around using 020
Fasten off with a sl st and cut the yarn.
Use the 16” cast on tail in 001 and embroider the segments by working to the outer edge from the middle of the mr. Tie a little knot on the back side and cut the yarn.
Weave in all ends.
